Musicianship Levels 1–2 is an accredited unit towards completion of Australian Kodály Certificate. This course provides students with an opportunity to develop a breadth of musicianship skills within the context of group work.Want to be able to

· develop confidence in your ability to use Curwen handsigns and rhythm syllables?
· hear, anylyse and apply musical elements?

In his introduction to '333 Reading Exercises', September 1943, Kodaly expressed the view that 'sight singing contributes more to the better understanding of music than do opera subscriptions
or popular music appreciation'. 'Merely to get the main intervals somehow right does not amount to sight-reading; it is merely spelling.'
Course group work offers students regular practice at listening to and working with others.

Each lecture will include a variety of activities in aural development, such as sight-singing, two-part exercises and canons, simple rhythmic and melodic dictations, harmonic work and memory work. There will be musical homework tasks!
