Do-Re-Mi
do-re-mi Music for Children is a Kodály singing-based program, which caters for children from birth to 7 years. These classes are fun-filled group lessons which focus on beat, rhythm, in-tune singing, games, dances and activities to enhance aural development. In addition to providing an excellent foundation for later instrumental studies, the program also provides opportunities for enhancing the development of a child's memory, motor co-ordination, socialization and
confidence building skills.
do-re-mi programs are based on a National Curriculum. Class activities utilise visual and aural stimulation, singing games, listening and movement activities which helps to develop the child's physical motor skills, emotional, social, spiritual and cognitive domains. As the music curriculum in all schools is based on the Kodály philosophy, the program comfortably leads a child into their school music program. The classes are sponsored by The Australian Kodály Institute and are conducted in private studios, childcare centres, conservatoriums and schools. Fees are very affordable and are paid each term. Terms consist of between 8 and 11 weeks depending on the individual teacher. Children up to age 3 usually attend the classes with an adult.
do-re-mi teachers are located throughout Australia; they are required to undergo an accreditation process and involve themselves in professional development annually. The teachers are either classroom music teachers and/or private instrumental teachers together with many years of early childhood music education, so are more than adequately qualified to provide musical opportunities for very young children.
do-re-mi teachers also provide professional development music courses for early-childhood staff with non-musical backgrounds, who are keen to introduce a quality music program into their childcare centres.
