do-re-mi Music For Children

do re mido-re-mi Music for Children is provided by KMEIA and is a Kodály-based singing program. It caters for children from birth to 8 years and beyond. Fun-filled group lessons focus on aural development, beat, rhythm, listening and in-tune singing through movement, dance, playing instruments and singing games. In addition to providing an excellent foundation for later instrumental or vocal studies, the program also provides opportunities for enhancing the child’s confidence and the development of important life-long learning skills including memory, concentration, motor coordination, and social skills.

do-re-mi programs use a research-based national curriculum. Class activities motivate children by using a variety of visual and aural stimulation, singing games, listening, playing and movement activities which help to develop the whole child, including cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional, and spiritual domains. As indicated by research, interaction between the child and adult is an integral part of learning in the classes for young children from birth to four years. From age four-five years, learning to listen carefully and organise themselves in a small group setting is also excellent preparation for school. School-age classes further enhance the child’s aural skills as well as the ability to read and write music and play and sing in parts. This provides a firm musical foundation for future instrumental or vocal tuition.

do-re-mi teachers are located throughout Australia. They are required to undergo a rigorous accreditation process through the Australian Kodály Music Education Institute Certification Course and involve themselves in professional development every two years. The teachers are either classroom music teachers and/or private instrumental teachers who, together with many years of early childhood music education, are well equipped to optimise the musical opportunities of their students by tailoring sessions to the needs and learning styles of each group of children.

do-re-mi teachers also provide professional development music courses for early-childhood staff with non-musical backgrounds, who are keen to introduce a quality music program into their childcare centres.
